Beth Underwood is an award-winning writer whose work has appeared in numerous magazines and newspapers for many years. Her passion is preserving the stories of America’s unsung heroes.
Ms. Underwood’s first book, Gravity, chronicles a small group of Army National Guardsmen from Tennessee who were mobilized to fight in the War on Terror in 2004. Deployed to one of the most hostile areas of operation in Iraq, these citizen-soldiers transitioned from neighbors, co-workers and childhood friends to brothers in arms, trained to do battle with a faceless enemy. Over the course of their deployment, they successfully executed dozens of raids and hundreds of patrols. For the most part, they came to terms with the emotional baggage of war. But a dozen weeks before returning to the States, the weight of death proved inevitable, forever altering the lives of those who returned.
